We spent a sunny Sunday afternoon walking on Crosby Beach – we’ve wanted to visit for a long time to see the Antony Gormley / Another Place exhibition (known locally as the Iron Men). We finally had a chance. It was everything we had hoped for and more – the statues are mesmerising. Looking out to sea and along the beach, sometimes squinting to see if you are looking at a statue or a real person. The shifting light and gathering clouds added to the experience.

And there’s a connection to Stoke-on-Trent too… there was a Gormley sculpture at the 1986 Garden Festival site. It’s gone now, but some things still remain to be seen at the Festival Park site if you go looking.
