Since coming back from my winter sun 🌞 adventures, my attention has shifted very acutely to my big running goal for 2024… taking part in the London 2 Brighton Ultra Challenge.

It’s a really long way from London to Brighton.
But (on the map at least), it looks like a nice straight line.
We just keep heading south until we get to the sea (stopping for a few snacks on the way).
For 100 kilometres.
So I’ve got a lot of training to do. But at the moment, it seems like I’m running round in circles (or circle-ish shapes) and I’m not sure I’m getting very far.
Sometimes, there are little circles, like last week when most of the paths were frozen and temperatures dropped to the minus numbers – we made a 5k route of a 300 loop. That’s a lot of loops.

Sometimes its a slightly bigger circle (or possibly a rectangle) like the one at the bottom of the road, where decent street lighting and relatively quiet roads means I can do a few loops on the dark evenings – round and round I go, 3 times on Tuesday, twice on Thursday. Sometimes slightly bigger loops –
Or it could be the squashed circles / figure of eight / cat of Hanley parkrun – where my first target of 2024 was achieved this weekend – very happy to have continued my pre-Christmas improvements and run my fastest time since April 2022. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me on the way round this week.

As the training runs get longer, I’m sure the circles will get bigger.
And I’m hoping that going round in circles for the next few months will be help me run in a really long “straight” line in May – we’re heading for Brighton!
