Watch a Film, Book a Flight

How do you decide where to visit?

Early in 2018, we’d been thinking of going away for a few days, as we both had annual leave to use up before the end of March. We didn’t have anywhere specific in mind, no sporting events or concerts booked to guide us to a particular destination.

And then one Friday evening, we watched a film, then the next morning we booked a flight. And a few days later, we found ourselves sitting on the roof terrace of the Ziggurat Hotel in St. Peter Port, with beautiful blue skies, perfect spring sunshine and time to refresh and catch-up.

Our inspiration – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

We watched the sunrise over Castle Cornet, explored sandy beaches and rocky coves, played mini-golf and ate cake, wandered along daffodil-lined country lanes and found fairy caves and a witches’ den (according to local folklore anyway). We crossed the causeway to Lihou Island and embraced the history all around us. We watched waves crash over the sea wall before the start of parkrun and looked for puffins. We walked along the coastal path and looked down onto Fremain Bay and Petit Bot Bay.

Inspired by a Friday night movie, we walked the lanes from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and also followed in the footsteps of Victor Hugo and Renoir.
