If you want to learn about a local area – history, landmarks, famous residents, wildlife – you might think about a visit to a museum or a quick trawl of the intranet or a travel guide. Perhaps a chat with the locals.
But the best way – play a round of mini-golf! You need to choose your course carefully – not every one will have all the answers. But when you find a good one, you can have an hour-ish of fun, some healthy if sometimes quite competitive sporting activity, and learn lots about where you’re visiting.
Just a few of our favourites mini-golfing adventures (and what we learnt about the places we visited). I’ll keep adding courses as I find the pictures.
Malmo – July 2016. This was Mr T’s birthday adventure to experience and explore all things related to “The Bridge” – the best of all the scandi-noir. We joined a tour, visited the filming locations, then experienced them all again at the Malmo Aventyrsgolf. And it was a very competitive game – my hole in one at the last hole tied the match!

New Brighton – September 2022. After walking along the Coastal Path from Leasowe Lighthouse and having lunch at Burger King, we headed to the crazy golf. We were the only players, which gave us plenty of time to enjoy both of the courses. One of them was dedicated to famous golf courses, but the other course was dedicated to all the sights and history of our surroundings – beach huts, Thor’s Rock, the ancient abbey ruins and some circus references too. And the last hole – The Mersey Tunnel. I’m pretty sure Mr T took the win on both courses – but sadly the score cards have been lost!

We’ll keep playing mini-golf and learning more about the places we visit. It’s the best way to learn!
