The Right Experience

Dead Line by Chris Ewan

A crime thriller that’s been on the bookshelf for a while, picked up from a charity shop and perfect to read and then leave on a bookshelf for someone else to enjoy.

This is the book I started reading when I found myself with an unexpected moment few hours of peace and quiet ahead of a busy week. The story was pure escapism – action, adventure and tracking down the bad guys in the south of France – but one line struck a chord:

You have exactly the right experience for the task ahead of you.

Just one simple line in a book.

Part of a story as far removed from my reality as can be.

And completely unrelated to the tasks that lay ahead for me.

But it got through.

In my anxiety about the work to be done and the busy days ahead.

It got through.

I typed it into the notes app on my phone.

I kept coming back to it all week.

And it was true.

I was ready for the task ahead.

And I did have all the experience I needed.

(Although a quick trip to see the sunset in Brighton might have helped too).
